Grief Resource

Losing a pet can be just as difficult as saying goodbye to a member of our human families. At Loving Family Animal Hospital we understand this, and all of our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Please know that we are here to support you.

As our beloved companions near the end of their lives and our love and attention are focused on them, we can begin to neglect our own wellbeing and need for personal support. We would like to provide you with resources that may help you begin your own journey of healing and growth during this time of transition.

A Guide to Mourning
A book is available by nationally renowned grief specialist Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D. entitled When Your Pet Dies: A Guide to Mourning, Remembering, and Healing. This book offers advice on processing grief and the difficult decisions we face upon losing a pet.

Susan Hollander, Ph.D.
Susan Hollander is a psychotherapist with 33 years of experience. She offers a unique combination of empathy, education, and her personal experiences of pet loss. If you feel caught in the grieving process, or that others are not understanding how you feel about losing your pet, consider contacting Dr. Hollander at 303.220.8400. She is available for in-person, phone, or Skype sessions.
The Human Animal Bond Trust (HABT) in Denver is a non-profit organization which exists to serve those who are anticipating or experiencing the loss of an animal companion. To meet the needs of those faced with animal loss, HABT provides the help of professional grief counselors through Denver Pet Loss Support Group. You can find out more about the support groups offered on their website.
The APLB is the only organization in the world offering extensive free advice for grief. They pride themselves on being available to anyone experiencing bereavement for a beloved pet.

Pet Loss Support Groups
This is a free, walk-in pet loss group. Its meetings are held every Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation & Petaid Colorado, located at 191 Yuma Street Denver, CO. They can be reached by phone at 303.318.0447.

We sincerely thank you for the privilege of helping your pet live a happy healthy life.
